Well, as I write this report winter has come in a strong way. This next seven days will only get into the high 50's with upper 20's to low 30's for overnight morning temps. The only thing missing from our norther freinds is that white stuff on the ground.
What makes Florida so great is that we still can get on the water and catch fish even with these temperatures. With a little bit of adjusting times getting on the water and slowing down lure presentations fishing can be fun. You won't find the Tarpon and a Snook would be a surprise bite but other fish are very willing to eat. Most winter activity will come from species such as flounder, sea trout, red fish, ladyfish, pompano, jack crevelle, sheep head and black drum. As you can see there are plenty of fish to be caught.
For the fly fisherman that are used to catching little book trout come on out and give the jacks and ladyfish a try on a 6 or 7 weight. There are days that 50-100 fish can be caught of these two species that can get you into your backing fast.
So put away your snow shovel pack your gear and come down to Florida where the sun is warm somewhere all the time.
