I can feel it in the air the last couple of days. Fall is here and the bait run will be in full swing shortly. The humidity is bareable if not at all , mornings and late afternoons are pleasant and the mid day is bareable to fish in instead of the 100 degree heat that August brought. This weather pattern is setting us up for some of the best fishing all year as I mentioned earlier the fall migration of bait will flood the intercaostal waters and near shore waters and the game fish will be on a feeding frenzy now and until the first few cold fronts show up here in Central Florida.
The snook bite has been great the last couple of weeks as well as tarpon too. Some of the bigger tarpon have moved into the intercoastal waters and have set up areas where the bait run will be passing through. These fish are weighing in around 50-70 pounds. Snook have been very responsive to our top water lures early in the morning as well as them eating shallow running crank baits used as a follow up lure when the top water lures have been missed.
Ther has been a variety of fish caught the last week or two on the flats to just name a few,sea trout, pompano, mangrove snapper, small bonnet head sharks, snook, tarpon, ladyfish. They say that variety is the spice of life and we sure have been experiencing it here the past couple of weeks.
The next 5-6 weeks will be great fishing up until the cold fronts start to hit us and then our patterns of the way we catch fish will be very much different until spring arrives again. So if you can get away and get on the water until then enjoy what mother nature will be bringing to us.
