Florida Fishing Reports, Winter Time 3/02/09
|
I know that it's been awhile since my last report and I can't use the excuse that I've been shoveling snow so I'm sorry for the delay. It has been a cold winter for my area this year. We have had several mornings with freezing temperatures and lot's of windy days in between. We have been targeting drop off areas in the river and catching schooling size sea trout on soft plastic jigs. On the high tide stages the pompano bite has been good behind the Sebastian Inlet area. The bigger trout have been hanging in very shallow waters later in the day sunning themselves to keep warm and have been very hard to hook up to. Our typical ladyfish action fills the voids of other more desireable summer time species that will return once we have stable warm waters usually by mid April. March is a windy time but at least the cold fronts will start to spread out and be less and less intense as we get into more spring like weather. It won't be long before the trout, reds and snook start to find their way to the grass flats and go on a very over due feeding frenzy. So I'm starting to break out my topwater lures and re hooking them for this feed to begin. |
